All You Need To Know About the 2020 Screen Actors Guild Awards

● Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards

Oscars and Golden Globes always get more publicity but most Hollywood actors respond genuinely to the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG) nominations. Read on to learn more about the SAG Awards.

What are the SAG Awards?

SAG Awards have been a major awards event since 1995. SAG was an organization that merged with the American Federation of TV and Radio Artists in 2012 for forming the SAG- AFTRA. It’s an American union that represents performers who work in films, TV, commercials, video games, radio, and other media. The organization recognizes outstanding performances in primetime TV and films.

According to Statista, 2.68 million Americans watched the 25th award ceremony in 2019. Viewers watch them either on their Cox TV packages live or the Internet later on. In 2018, the number of viewers was 2.71 million. The drop was major because the audience was busy watching the NFL playoff game.

Who Votes for the Winners?

If you already know what is Screen Actors Guild Awards, you must have wondered who nominates and votes for the winners?

The nominations for the awards come from two committees – film and TV. Each has 2100 members. Every year, random members are selected to vote for the winners. The members who have voted are not selected again for the next 8 years. This is how they keep refreshing the nominating committees.

What’s the Big Deal about SAG Awards?

SAG Awards are extremely prestigious among actors. It’s because they are exclusively devoted to acting on film and TV. Oscars and Golden Globes are limited to the acting peers. This is why actors are genuinely proud to be recognized and presented with the SAG Awards.
