Vaccine for Acne – Are We Bidding Farewell to the Ugly Red Creatures?

How to Get Rid of Acne Scars

My worst nightmare as a teenager was uninvited ugly red creatures that popped out on my face out of nowhere. If your face has been attacked by these not-so-pleasant beings as well, then you know that I am talking about acne. I have spent a good part of my teen years searching for remedies on acne scars. From applying my grandmother’s tested home remedies to opting for medical products, I have tried almost everything to get rid of the acne scars. But here are some from those many products and masks that I found to be useful.

How to Get Rid of Acne Scars using Lemon and Coconut Exfoliator

Lemon contains Alpha Hydroxy Acids that aid in removing not just the dead skin but also stimulate the skin to repair any damages. It is for this reason that it is a perfect candidate for treating acne scars as well. You would need the following ingredients to make this exfoliator

  • Lemon juice
  • Coconut oil
  • Baking soda

Mix the three in a bowl taking equal quantities of each and apply it to your face. Avoid applying the mixture anywhere near the eyes and rinse with lukewarm water after half an hour. Be extra cautious when then the mixture is applied to your face as exposing a lemony skin to the sun causes further harm.

Apple Fizz

Apart from lemon, apple cider vinegar has skin-exfoliating properties as well. It contains malic acid and has certain antibacterial properties that prevent any further acne scars from appearing. For this home remedy, you will need the following:

Combine the above-mentioned ingredients in a bowl. Crush the aspirin tablets before adding them to the mixture. Massage the mixture on your face in circular motions to remove any dead skin. And let it dry. This should take around 40-50 minutes. After the mask has completely dried, rinse it off.

However, cosmetologists have other ways to tell you get rid of acne scars. I’ve summarized two of these below:

An alternative to dermabrasion, micro-dermabrasion uses diamond crystals at the tip of its wand for the home-based instrument. On the other hand, the instrument used in clinics make use of metal wheel or brush at the tip of the wand. You should opt for this treatment if your acne scars are not that severe and deep. However, if you suffer from scars that are embedded deep inside your skin, then you should go for a dermabrasion treatment. What these treatments do is that they exfoliate skin, giving it a shiny and bright look. These procedures also help in the rejuvenation of the skin.

You can invest in a home-based machine for microdermabrasion or book appointments with either a dermatologist or cosmetologist. The former is a better and a cost-effective option.

Well, according to recent news, doctors are working on a vaccine for acne.

Do you realize what that means?

Let me walk you through it. If doctors or scientist (whoever wants to do it) are successful in designing a vaccine for acne, there will be no acne in the first place. And no acne means no acne scars. So, that is a great news and I hope this happens as soon as possible. Well, the vaccine has been tested on mice as of now apart from human tissue samples. According to studies, the bacteria that the vaccine supposedly targets is the one that is believed to cause acne.

However, the researchers say that it will take time before a vaccine that caters to humans is designed. But they have a direction to work on after trying a vaccine on mice. Whatever the case may be, we can be relieved that scientists have started working towards a mission to eliminate acne.

But till the time the scientists do not cater to the human needs, we will have to resort to other treatments for acne. A friend was one looking for ways on how to get rid of acne scars and someone recommended a dermatologist to her. The doctor prescribed Accutane to my friend. She was lucky to have consulted another dermatologist before using it. Because the second doctor that she consulted told her the possible and harmful side effects that drugs like Accutane can have. Inability to give birth was among the many other side effects of that medicine.
