Verizon Extends 15GB of Extra Data through May 2020

verizon wireless customers

Good news! Verizon’s Wireless customers are getting 30 GB of extra wireless data. It’s the company’s response to give relief to its subscribers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you are a wireless customer, these extra gigabytes of cellular data will be available automatically. Keep in mind, 30 GB of data is not available right away. Half of the data allotment is to be used by the end of April whereas the other half in May.

Are the Extra Gigabytes for Everyone?

The extra data is given out by per plan, not per line. This means regardless of the number of members on your plan, you will get 15 GB, which you must share with all members. You won’t be getting 15 GB per phone.

Those who are subscribers of unlimited plans will receive 15 gigabytes of 4G LTE wireless hotspot data. The unlimited label does not apply to data usage when the phones are converted into Verizon mobile hotspots.

Along with extra gigabytes, the company is waiving late bill payment, overage charges, and calls made to CDC level 3 countries. Customers will also enjoy free access to the public Wi-Fi hotspots. The provider has also eliminated data caps limitations for those who have DSL and Verizon Fios Internet plans.

What about Free Internet?

Besides giving away 30 GB of wireless data, Verizon Internet for students is also available to facilitate students during the pandemic.

This free Internet access is offered to students in the LAUSD (Los Angeles Unified School District). This initiative will help up to 100,000 students to continue learning while schools are closed.

Los Angeles Unified serves up to 700,000 students in kindergarten through 12 grade. The district has 200 independently operated public charter schools. Unfortunately, a lot of students rely on school libraries and public places to connect to the Internet. The shutdown of schools and the nation-wide lockdown has confined us to our homes. To enable unprivileged students to continue their online classes, free internet access will make a big difference.

No Luck on Data Caps for Wireless Customers

Verizon Wireless customers are still stuck in the shackles of data caps. If your phone’s data plan maxes out, you shall experience a slower speed.

These commitments are a part of the FCC’s pledge. Broadband service providers have volunteered and committed not to terminate the services, restrict access to hotspots or late fees for sixty days. Should you’re unable to meet your Verizon bill pay commitment because of the economical pressure caused by COVID-19, let the provider in advance and you won’t be charged with late fee penalty.

Can Verizon Handle the Traffic?

The Unlimited plan includes a varying amount of hotspot data. The highest allowance is delivered via the Get More Unlimited plan featuring 30 GB. An extra 15 GB of data on top of this through April 30th means you will have a fairly robust amount of data.

The data will disappear quickly if you do a lot of streaming, video conferencing, and browsing without being careful. Once the data caps reach its limit, a slow connection will follow.

The second month of 15 GB has been added by the provider already. Verizon, the 2nd largest telecommunication company in the country, which has launched the 5G service already, is open to courtesies to help its customers during the crisis. However, how long this charitable act will last, nobody knows.
